grey skies white camera

This weekend I bit the bullet and splashed out on the camera I have been eyeing up for quite some time. The Nikon J1 twin lens pack in white. I must admit I have not had a real chance to play around with it and take many shots as I was busy getting ready for my trip to Sydney tonight BUT the few shots I did take look awesome.
On Sunday, after a trip to Myer to get some sensible work shoes, I ventured down the Geelong waterfront to snap some pictures. Here is one of the shots I took. The image looks lovely and calm but the winds were raging and I didn't stay long as I was afraid I'd get dirt blown into my brand new lens. So precious I know!
I hope to get out and about tomorrow evening in Sydney and get some good shots.
So keep an eye out!

Trying to thrift....

Sunday was cold but sunny; myself and Miss Kelly headed out on a small shopping excursion. Unfortunately, our slow start due to the brisk winter weather meant that it was too late to go exploring in Melbourne so we stayed local instead.
Off to the Mill Markets around Geelong we went.
The Mill Markets are a set of warehouses set up to hold individual stalls selling all things old etc (glorified op shop). It is incredibly over priced at times and on Sunday I couldn't help but notice the throngs of people perusing the market after seeing it on The Block (ruining my usually quiet and uninterrupted shop for treasure grrrr)
....BUT it was great fun! By the end of the first market I realised how similar Kelly and I were in our tastes for decor and fashion! Also visible on our Pinterest boards!
Here are a few pics from our adventure...
  1. The old woollen mills,
  2. Creaky old water tower,
  3. Miss Kelly in the most eighties-tastic party dress (we almost decided to throw a fancy dress party JUST so we had an excuse to buy this beauty!)
  4. Me and my new THRIFTED headscarf (loving the colours!)

1 out of 24 before 25

I have really enjoyed this one so far. As you can see my collection of nail polishes has started to grow and I love that by simply adding a bit of paint on my nails makes me feel nice about how I look. The only down side to this is that having nail polish on EVERYday is not very good for my nails. I do have to go the odd day without painting them to let my nails rest. Washing the dishes plays havoc on my polish and results in chips - should really buy rubber gloves for the dishes!

Colour Me Pretty

I love these colours together. They made me feel fun and free even though I was trapped at my desk. Hopefully I'll be more colour coordinated tomorrow -my choice of a wine coloured dress did NOT go well with these nails-oh wel!!! These colours are part of the Rimmel 60 second collection, they come in small little bottles with broad brushes that make application quick and easy.....and their colours are FAB!

A day on the town.

Last weekend I headed off to the Australian Quilt Convention with D and her baby Ivy. We packed up the car nice and early and sneaked into the exhibitors car park nice and close to the door. As we entered the fantastic building that is the Melbourne Exhibition Centre we couldn’t help but OOOh and AHHH at all the fabric, quilts and gadgets that were on display.
I found the amount of exhibitors this year to be disappointing, as last year I walked all day at the quilt and craft show. The stand and quilt shop that stood out from the rest of them was certainly Ballart Patchwork.
They were fresh, modern, colourful, hip and happenin’ – just what quilting today is! They had gorgeous patterns for everything from bags and quilts to stuffed animals. The best find was certainly the new Creative Cards from Melly and Me. These Creative Cards are a fantastic idea!

From Melly and Me's blog:

These cards are essentially mini-patterns in a new cute and compact format; in effect they are the look and size of a greeting card but with all of the step by step instructions and templates inside.

So if you are after a small, quick and simple pattern that you can grab with your small change, Creative Cards are the product for you.... why not even pop a personal note inside and send it as a greeting card to a crafty friend?

D bought the Sophie the Seahorse pattern to make for Ivy. She thought it would be a good sized project to start back into as she had no sewing machine at the moment. Muchos respect D for attempting this sans sewing machine as i certainly wouldnt have the neatness to do this one by hand!

After doing several laps of the convention and deciding that there was nothing else to see we hopped on the circle tram and headed to Fed Square to explore the city. The sun was shining and I felt like I was on holidays – it was fab!
Although I cannot lie…i was very disheartened that I had not bought anything at the quilt show!

We strolled around town at our leisure taking it in turns to carry the little one as she sat snugly in our arms watching all the action around her.
When I got home I was super excited to go through the wonderful shots of Ivy from the day so I quickly downloaded the new i-photo app from Apple on my ipad and flicked through the photos. The editing capability is scarily fantastic! Here are some of the pics....

Winter is coming!

Well it is so cold here that I found myself dawning the chunky knit scarf I made last winter. It is so nice to be snugly wrapped up in winter clothes again after the warmth of the summer. I think it is the familiarity of the cool weather that is somewhat comforting while I am away from home.
This week I have some major reading to do as I now have 3 books and 2 magazines on the go....eeep! Un-sure what to craft up next. I have a top secret project on the go-it will take a few months to complete so it will be most uninteresting for you until I have finished it and can share it here.
Very much excited to head to the Australian Quilt Convention this weekend - may get to see Melly & Me and Mrs Ric Rac. For now I stay snugly wrapped in my favorite miss-matched knee socks dreaming of craftier times head!
