This weekend saw me attend my first Opera: Mozart's "The Magic Flute" performed by Opera Australia, directed by the lady who did The Lion King on broadway!
Worried that my wardrobe lacked the attire necessary to attend such a grande event I decide to dress up my navy maxi-dress.
A trip to my local craft super store saw me leave $50 less off with charcoal lace, yellow buttons, yellow tape, charcoal fabric and navy fringe. I attached the charcoal lace around the bottom hem of the dress with fusible iron on interfacing. The thought of sewing on a Friday night after a week of work was completely after the question this week!
I did the same with some yellow tape around the bodice of the dress and I then attached small yellow buttons for decoration. I bought a yellow wrap and Voila ready for the opera!
I then decided to get ready for my first operatic experience by watching the magic flute on YouTube and reading the synopsis. Oh God-it's in German! My 3 years of high school German will not get me through this I thought. This will be a long night!
Alas I was wrong for that famous director of The Lion King was behind this production. The lyrics had been adapted into modern English language and the spoken word the same. It was incredibly well produced, humorous and entertaining. The puppetry work was excellent and of course the singing was frigging awesome!
