A day on the town.

Last weekend I headed off to the Australian Quilt Convention with D and her baby Ivy. We packed up the car nice and early and sneaked into the exhibitors car park nice and close to the door. As we entered the fantastic building that is the Melbourne Exhibition Centre we couldn’t help but OOOh and AHHH at all the fabric, quilts and gadgets that were on display.
I found the amount of exhibitors this year to be disappointing, as last year I walked all day at the quilt and craft show. The stand and quilt shop that stood out from the rest of them was certainly Ballart Patchwork.
They were fresh, modern, colourful, hip and happenin’ – just what quilting today is! They had gorgeous patterns for everything from bags and quilts to stuffed animals. The best find was certainly the new Creative Cards from Melly and Me. These Creative Cards are a fantastic idea!

From Melly and Me's blog:

These cards are essentially mini-patterns in a new cute and compact format; in effect they are the look and size of a greeting card but with all of the step by step instructions and templates inside.

So if you are after a small, quick and simple pattern that you can grab with your small change, Creative Cards are the product for you.... why not even pop a personal note inside and send it as a greeting card to a crafty friend?

D bought the Sophie the Seahorse pattern to make for Ivy. She thought it would be a good sized project to start back into as she had no sewing machine at the moment. Muchos respect D for attempting this sans sewing machine as i certainly wouldnt have the neatness to do this one by hand!

After doing several laps of the convention and deciding that there was nothing else to see we hopped on the circle tram and headed to Fed Square to explore the city. The sun was shining and I felt like I was on holidays – it was fab!
Although I cannot lie…i was very disheartened that I had not bought anything at the quilt show!

We strolled around town at our leisure taking it in turns to carry the little one as she sat snugly in our arms watching all the action around her.
When I got home I was super excited to go through the wonderful shots of Ivy from the day so I quickly downloaded the new i-photo app from Apple on my ipad and flicked through the photos. The editing capability is scarily fantastic! Here are some of the pics....
