I am reading.....

So as you can see on my bookshelf I currently have quite a few books on the go. At the moment I am flipping between Blake Mycoskie's "Start Something Better" and "I love your style-how to define and refine your personal style" by Amanda Brooks.

It has been something that has bothered me the last few years- I always felt I had no "style" or theme to my wardrobe and overall image. Comfy jeans, rugby jumpers and sportswear were my daily uniform to college and the change in climates adjusting between the differences of moving from Ireland to Australia left me with a bit of a mish mash collection of bits.
Amanda Brooks' book does not tell you what to wear. It guides you on an adventure of self discovery and expression, making sure you are well informed on the way!

The book is broken down into 3 sections:
Definable style

  1. Classic
  2. bohemian
  3. minimal
In definable style
  1. High fashion
  2. street
  3. eclectic
Shopping
  1. Basics
  2. cheap chic
  3. designer
  4. vintage

Each chapter is packed with current and old examples, plenty of photos and a plethora of knowledge. Amanda is able to tell you the unspoken rules of fashion without being condescending and making you feel like you have no hope in finding your inner style guru.
One of my favorite quotes in the book so far is: Style is what you have not what you buy.

After each chapter/lesson there is a list of books, movies, shops, blogs and style icons for inspiration and resources to help you on your style journey. Couple that with Pinterest and you will see why I have been an absent blogger of late!
But on the plus side I think I have recognized my style!
