Firstly, clear your workspace and cover the area you will be working on - the spray adhesive settles on everything and is very difficult to get off. Make sure you are in an EXTREMELY well ventilated room as the spray adhesive is very fumey and highly flamable. Wash and iron your fabric so the colours are set and there are no unsightly wrinkles left on your shoes!
Once you are set up make sure your boots are clean and dry so that the fabric has the best chance of sticking to the outside.
This is probably the most important tip I can give you for this project: apply the spray adhesive to HALF of the toe of the boot. Do not spray it up close as this will saturate the fabric and cause the glue to clump. spray several fine layers ensuring that you have glue in all the corners and joins of the shoe.
Now WAIT.....It is so important to let the spray adhesive get tacky before you apply the fabric. If you do not wait the glue will soak straight into the fabric and stain it and it will not stick to the shoe. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!

Once the glue is tacky; start at the top and carefully start to place your fabric over the shoe, gently rub any creases out as you go along and push the fabric right into the corners and joins of the sole and other pieces. As you start to reach the rounded part of the shoe you may need to make a snip or two in the strip of fabric to allow for the natural contour of the toe.
Ensure you have pushed the fabric into the corners and joins of the shoe before turning the shoe over and repeating the process for the other half of the shoe.
Once the fabric is attached and you have given the glue some time to set you can then trim away the excess fabric. Using your xacto blade or a scalpal, slowly follow the joins in the shoe being careful not to cut through the shoe itself.
Repeat with the other shoe and leave them to dry over night. There is no limit to how much of the boot you re-cover. As you can see, I also did the fold-over tops of these boots. Finish off the re-vamp by re-lacing your boots with some coordinating ribbon instead of the old laces.
